. pat colins is live on the scene for us. >> reporter: this is what u streetlooks like right now. it's shut down from ninth street allhe way to 14th street as police investigate this murder, this shting that happened here this afternoon. gun violence in broad daylight, in the middle of one of our city's most popular streets. one dead, one wounded a car overturned. suspects on the run. five blocks of u street closed wn as policenvestigate and look for clues. now this happened nearby the walker memorial baptist church as the funeral for ashley crea was coming to an end. hearow from police chief cathcatkathy lanier. >> there was a funeral in the 1300 block of u street that had just concluded. people were leaving from the funeral lining up for a processi procession. as that procession was lining up and about to leave the funeral area. there are some attende who walked down the street t get into their car, suspects approached the car and opened fire on the individuals in that car. >> with me now is brian weaver an anc commissioner. he was here having lunch when it all happened. brian, tel

someone hit her. >> why ha you decided to run for the u.s. senate? >> i don't feel our elected officials are responsive to the needs of their constituents. >> reporter: she is just 30 years old, athird-yeesh law student but running on the ticket. her campaign motto is a litel statement too. she was training for a triathalon when a driver hit her on her bike on campus way and largo early sunday morning. >> my hope is that she is 100% back to where she was when she left the house. right now, i just want to be able to lookt her and recognize her. >> reporter: recognizing her daughter again will take time. and a medical miracle. natasha suffered from multiple broken bones, a head injury, and lost a kidney in surgery. >> there was a need to resuscitate because there were no vital signs or signs of life. and i would like to know what would have caused someone to hit another human being on their bicycle. clearly if you don't see the person, you should have seen the bicycle. >> reporter: the driver told police, she didn't see the bike until she drove home and spotted it unher escalade.

making for a messy commute. some residents used sandbags, buckets and whatever they could get their hands on to deal with the water leaking into their homes. good ggy thursday afternoon for you all. >> folks, this is just round one of the flooding. round two is en route. >> veronica johnson is here with more on rain totals so far. >> the forecast is working out realy well just as we anticipated yesterday. we're getting a little of the break, at least some of us right now, from the moderate and heavy rains we had earlier. look at that sky. that's the break without anything falling in the immediate d.c. area right now. all through the are we remain under a flash flood watch. in the red, those are the flood warnings to the west of us and north. loudon county,nne arundel county and points up to the north. that is until 6:15. meanwhile, a tornado watch because there's still a tremendous amount of spin in the atmosphere. tornado goes from areas of baltimore county down through prince georges county, charles county, st. mary's and calert again. those folks have quite a few tornado warnings early

. veronica johnson tells us when we'll cool f. >> some extreme heat today. even a little humi at time, too. that was the early part of the day. we had a little humidity. some mistand fog across the area. but boy, oh, boy, we got to 98 degrees. 98, the last time we were at 98 so late in the year. it was ba in 1983. that was on september 10th. look at the temperatures. they've not dropped very much. 97 degrees. foggy ttom, you folks around takoma park, suit ladd maryland. alexandria at 97 degrees right now. tyson's corner at 96. you folks in montgomery county also at 96 degrees. so today is now our 66th day. 90 degrees or higher. we had 67 days in 1990. are we going to get any more 90s around here? that's my tease for u. we have a south westerly wind. you can see the front that came through and produced the flooding. it is to the west of our area. i'll tell you what we will have. temperatures on the good night forecast, 85 degrees by 7:00 p.m. skies will be clear. 67 by 11:00 p.m. for us, a dry day, a dry easy eveng. cooler conditions? perhaps much cooler contions on the way for the weekend.
